Biography

 

Viviane Silvera was born in Hong Kong  in 1971.  She grew up there, as well as in Sao Paulo, Brazil before moving to New York City in 1986. She received B.A.Ős in Political Science and Psychology from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts in 1992 before receiving her MFA from The New York Academy of Art in 2000.

 

While in art school from 1993-1998 at the Art Students League of NY and The National Academy School of Fine Arts, she received numerous awards and scholarships including the Chaim Gross Scholarship, the Valerie Delacorte Scholarship and the Harriet Whitney Frishmuth travel award, as well as the education scholarship from the National Sculpture Society.

 

She has been the recipient of grants from the the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, and the Newington-Cropsey Foundation in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and The Eileen Guggenheim education grant. 

 

Her work has been exhibited in New York City at Luxe Gallery, Eyebeam Gallery, Kentler International Drawing Center and the Dahesh Museum, and is in The Drawing Center slide registry with a current show at Boreas Gallery in Williamsburg and an upcoming show at Gallery 511 in Cheslea.

 

Public works include a bronze monument at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her work is included in many private collections and has been featured in American Artist  and Sculpture Review  magazines as well as in various catalogs and papers.
