Gateways Inn and Gallery Boreas present:

ÒItalian Painters and American Sculptors in Contemporary BrooklynÓ

Lenox, MA, August 9, 2004.  Gallery Boreas of Brooklyn and the Gateways Inn of Lenox announce a collaboration to present selected fine artworks from the gallery at the Gateways Inn in historic Lenox.  The exhibit is in the lounge and La Terrazza spaces of the inn.

On view  and available for sale are original fine artworks by Fabio DÕAroma, Noa Bornstein, Federico Solmi, Marianne Weil, and Fulvia Zambon.

Fabio DÕAroma, Federico Solmi, and Fulvia Zambon, three artists classically schooled in Italy and presently based in Brooklyn, apply contemporary ideas to their oil paintings on canvas.  In ÒStars, Bucks, and Cap,Ó DÕAroma pokes fun at societyÕs reverence for sport and the NY Yankee payroll in a meticulously rendered still life.  ZambonÕs two paintings also portray images from the American flag, dolls, and lights in still lifes of scenes from her Williamsburg studio.  Much of her work mixes child and adult themes.  She is preparing for an exhibition in Italy this fall.  Mr. Solmi, working in oil marker on gauze, presents selections from his work that have recently been exhibited in Milan and in Ontario.  His representations of appliances, structures, and automobiles depict, in the artistÕs words, Òa [frenetic] world that É continues to regenerate itself, but at the same time is falling apart in front of our eyes.Ó

Noa Bornstein and Marianne Weil are two New York area artists working in bronze sculpture.  Noa BornsteinÕs figurative ÒSurvivorÓ is a poignant, 14Ó tall slender, one-legged woman holding an infant.  Ms. WeilÕs 36Ó tall ÒBroughÓ is inspired by Celtic architecture.  Ms. Weil was part of a two-person show in the galleryÕs Brooklyn space this spring.  Earlier this year she participated in the galleryÕs residency program in Iceland.  Her sculptures are often inspired by historical cultures encountered in her travel in an attempt to bridge the traditional with the postmodern.

Gallery Boreas is a member of the Williamsburg Gallery Association in Brooklyn.  It is committed to providing emerging and mid-career artists with exhibition opportunities.  In addition to the Gateways Inn, the gallery is presenting ÒBrooklyn PreviewÓ at 70 North Street in Pittsfield.  It also arranges residencies and exchanges for artists between its Brooklyn, Western Massachusetts, and Reykjavik facilities.

Patrons can meet many of the artists featured at the Gateways Inn and in Pittsfield by Gallery Boreas this summer at the Gateways Inn on August 21, following the Tanglewood Concert as we assemble for a post-concert gathering at La Terrazza.  The Gateways Inn is located at 59 Walker Street in Lenox.
