In writing about the 'Digital Twins' series of Hugo Bastidas,  Ken Johnson of the New York Times describes Bastidas' digital photographs as a creation of "perfectly ... and slightly weirdly symmetrical faces." This body of work from the New York-based artist was on display at recent Digital and Video Art Fairs (DIVA) in New York, Cologne, and Paris.  "Digital Twins" explores symmetry as an ideal of beauty.  Although symmetry never occurs perfectly in nature, digital technology allows for its creation.  One photograph of one person thus becomes two images of symmetrical faces, the juxtaposition of which reveals just how different the right and left sides of our faces truly are.

Andrea Hersh, of the Albany area, has had two solo shows at Gallery Boreas' Brooklyn space.  She also exhibited paintings in the gallery's Brooklyn Preview in Pittsfield in the summer of 2004.  Her recent works are collage-based. Cut-outs from art history are combined with images from her daily personal network. The exhibit includes finished collages and drawings and paintings whose compositions are based on collaged sketches.

Birgir Snæbjörn Birgisson created a Blond JFK during his residency in Pittsfield during Part 1 of Portraits on the Edge. This sculptural painting is included in Part 2.
